Resolve to be Flexible

Flexibility training or stretching is something that is generally overlooked by people until they become injured. Stretching is often recommended to overcome injury and prevent future problems. Stretching should be used as an injury prevention tool.  Being proactive is always better than being reactive.

So what are the benefits of being more flexible?

Stretching before can reduce muscle fatigue, giving you a better workout. Stretching before can reduce injury by preparing the muscles for the load of working out. Stretching after can reduce the lactic acid in muscles, giving you less soreness after a workout. Stretching with a wide range of stretches should be a part of EVERY workout, before and after.

Tips for Dining Out

Share an entrée. Order salad or soup or an appetizer as an entrée. Order off the Children’s Menu. With child-sized portions you don’t get the leftovers you might from a full adult dinner, but you won’t eat until you’re overstuffed either.

Get a “to-go” box when you are served and put half the meal into it before you start to eat.

Smart Snacks

Look for snacks such as fat-free yogurt, fruit cups, crackers, reduced fat cookies or cheese that provide about 100 to 150 calories per package.

Food Guide Pyramid
to Lose or Gain Weight

The best and simplest way to lose weight is to increase your physical activity and reduce the fat and sugars in your diet.

But be sure to eat at least the lowest number of servings from the five major food groups in the Food Guide Pyramid.

You need each food group for the vitamins, minerals, carbohydrates, and protein they provide. Try to pick the lowest fat choices from the food groups.

To gain weight, increase the amounts of foods you eat from all of the food groups. If you have lost weight unexpectedly, see your doctor.
